THE GOT TO GET GOT formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in the winter of 2006 when Mark Mullane (North of America) moved there temporarily for a five month work contract, sleeping on blue lounge chair mats at Mark Colavecchia's (North of America) garden apartment. As the days went on, Mullane's ass groove got deeper and deeper on those lounge chair mats and the songs started to come together. They snagged their friend Chris Vanderlaan (Animal Names), rented a shithole practice room and started to piece TGTGG together. Pedigree aside, Colavecchia and Mullane just wanted to take a stab at making some pop music.

With a handful of practice room jams under their belt, Mullane said goodbye to the land of all-u-can-eat sushi and went back to Toronto before moving back to the homeland – Halifax. As the boxes were getting packed up in Mullane's apartment, Colavecchia and Vanderlaan flew in to make some TGTGG demos with Leon Taheny (Germans, Final Fantasy). They holed up in Leon's apartment for 10 days and recorded a miss-mash of TGTGG songs. After recording 9 disjointed songs they found their sound in songs like “Blood Test” and “No One Riots In The Winter”, coincidentally the two lead off tracks on THE GOT TO GET GOT's first EP release “Canadian Arts Collective Blues/ Huge Zig-Zag” (Noyes Records). Saying another goodbye, the band remained steadfast in making TGTGG happen. Colavecchia and Vanderlaan went home to Vancouver and recruited Dan Tompkins (Baby Control), Tom Hillifer (Daggermouth), and Dave Reynolds (Certain Breeds) to join them in forming the west coast chapter of TGTGG, they recorded two songs “No One Riots In The Winter” and “Mass Murder Weekend” for the EP and Mullane moved back to Halifax and recorded “Blood Test” and “Tenerife” with the help of the TGTGG Strictly East Coast band that features Michael Catano (North of America), Ron Bates (The Memories Attack), Eleanor King (The Just Barelys), Brad Lahead (The Nursed), Jon Dacey, Haley Thomas, Rachael Schwartz and Andrew Glencross. TGTGG East Coast did a supposed “one-off” show with their best friends GERMANS in November and it went so well that the east coast band started to book more shows and the TGTGG infection started to spread around Halifax.

Now they just need to all get into one room and make the long-distance relationship work. It's heart breaking to be apart for so long, but TGTGG plans on tying the knot this fall. Until then, pre-production of their debut full-length will commence in June and continue throughout the summer. Look out for special festival appearances and secret shows.

THE GOT TO GET GOT features Mark Mullane (North of America), Mark Colavecchia (North of America/Baby Control), and Chris Vanderlaan (Animal Names). OTHER POINTS:
- The name The Got To Get Got comes from a quote on the TV series “Law and Order” when a criminal was brought in for interrogation with Ice-T and when he sat down at the desk, the criminal said, “yeah, but he got to get got”. On the street, “got to get got” means to murder someone.
- Mark Mullane and Mark Colavecchia were in the seminal cacophonous indie rock band NORTH OF AMERICA
- Before the record was about to be mastered Mullane hadn't heard “Mass Murder Weekend” and Colavecchia/Vanderlaan hadn't heard “Tenerife”
- “Tenerife” was the first song TGTGG Strictly East Coast wrote together as a band.
- Mark Mullane is directing the bands first video for “Blood Test” in May. In the past, Mullane has produced videos for The Arcade Fire and the Barenaked Ladies' Steven Page.
- TGTGG plan on playing selective dates throughout the spring/summer and doing a North American or possibly European tour this fall.
